Racing Controversy Put to Rest: FIA Intervenes in Red Bull Car Debate

The Formula 1 world breathed a collective sigh of relief as the FIA’s head of single seaters, Nikolas Tombazis, declared the controversy surrounding Red Bull’s car at the U.S. Grand Prix a non-issue. The drama began when it was revealed that Red Bull’s car features a device under the pedals, allowing for adjustments to the front ride height.

A Device Like No Other

Unlike its competitors, Red Bull’s car boasts this unique feature, sparking speculation about its potential use to secretly alter ride height between qualifying and the race. However, Tombazis assured that there is no evidence to suggest Red Bull has done anything illegal.

Parc Ferme Regulations

Set-up changes under parc ferme conditions are strictly limited to front wing angle and tyre pressures. To prevent any alterations, FIA scrutineers and CCTV are in place. Tombazis emphasized that the introduction of a seal covering the device will make any future attempts to manipulate ride height easily detectable.

A Sealed Deal

Tombazis stated, “We didn’t have any clear indication that somebody was doing such a thing, so we said from this race onwards, then there must be no possibility to do such a thing at all.” As a result, all teams have adhered to the new regulations, and the controversy appears to be under control.

Red Bull’s Response

Team principal Christian Horner downplayed the significance of the device, claiming that other setup changes would be easier to make under parc ferme conditions. Horner argued that the device has been in place for over three years and is merely part of the car’s packaging.

A Catalyst for Change

McLaren CEO Zak Brown’s comments earlier in the day prompted the FIA’s intervention. Horner believes that Red Bull’s rivals were responsible for stirring up the controversy, which ultimately led to the FIA’s actions.

With the FIA’s seal of approval, the racing world can now focus on the thrilling championship battle ahead. The drama may be over, but the excitement is only just beginning.
