Manchester City’s Future: Éderson Speaks Out on Pep Guardiola’s Potential Departure
As the football world waits with bated breath, Manchester City goalkeeper Éderson has dropped a bombshell, revealing that he believes his club has already identified a successor to take the reins should Pep Guardiola decide to leave at the end of the season. The 53-year-old coach has remained tight-lipped about his future, fueling speculation about his potential exit in June 2025.
A Legacy of Success
Since joining Manchester City in 2016, Guardiola has led the team to an impressive 18 titles, cementing his reputation as one of the greatest coaches in the sport. Éderson, who has worked under Guardiola since 2017, has been instrumental in the team’s success, winning six Premier League crowns and a Champions League title.
Éderson’s Insights
In an exclusive interview with TNT Sports Brazil, Éderson shared his thoughts on Guardiola’s potential departure, saying, “City is a very well-structured club, well-managed, it has great directors, great CEO, a great coach… I believe the club already has the next manager in mind.” The Brazilian goalkeeper emphasized that while Guardiola’s departure would be a significant loss, he has no doubt that the club is well-prepared to continue its winning streak.
A Lucrative Offer Turned Down
This summer, Éderson turned down a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia, citing his conversations with Guardiola as a key factor in his decision. “There was an offer on the table, it weighed heavy on me as it was way above the average [wage],” he revealed. “But I had countless conversations with Pep, there was a decisive one that I can’t reveal much about, but it was about what he told me, his guarantees, all of what we’ve experienced together here, the evolution I had with him.”
Guardiola’s Coaching Style
Éderson praised Guardiola’s coaching style, saying, “He shows you the way and then it’s all on you to put this theory into practice. He is like our team’s GPS — he gives the route and we follow.” The goalkeeper credits Guardiola with his own development as a player, saying, “If you don’t develop as a player with Guardiola it’s because you don’t want to.”
A New Era Ahead?
As Manchester City prepares for a potential post-Guardiola era, the club has announced that Sporting CP executive Hugo Viana will take over as director of football from the summer of 2025, replacing Txiki Begiristain. Speculation is rife that Sporting coach Rúben Amorim could follow Viana, potentially setting the stage for a new era of success at Manchester City. One thing is certain – Éderson is confident that the club is ready for whatever the future holds.
