49ers Roster Update: Pearsall Cleared, Jennings Out

Rookie Sensation Ricky Pearsall Makes Miraculous Return to the Field

Just 50 days after being shot in the chest, San Francisco 49ers rookie wideout Ricky Pearsall is set to make his NFL debut against the Kansas City Chiefs. This remarkable turnaround has left coaches and teammates alike in awe.

From Tragedy to Triumph

On August 31, Pearsall’s life took a dramatic turn when he was shot during an alleged armed robbery attempt in San Francisco’s Union Square. The bullet exited his back, narrowly missing vital organs, allowing for a swift recovery that has been dubbed “miraculous” by 49ers GM John Lynch.

Defying Expectations

Initially, Pearsall was placed on the non-football injury list, which meant he would miss at least four games. However, his determination to return to the field sooner rather than later has paid off. After a week of practice, coach Kyle Shanahan announced that Pearsall will be activated to the active 53-man roster, ahead of schedule.

Pearsall’s Impressive Practice Week

Shanahan praised Pearsall’s performance during practice, saying, “He’s had a hell of a week and we’re pumped to get him out there.” Quarterback Brock Purdy echoed Shanahan’s sentiments, noting that Pearsall’s energy and speed have been impressive, creating separation and winning man-to-man matchups.

Injury Update: Jennings Out, Samuel and Mason Cleared

Fellow receiver Jauan Jennings has been ruled out with a hip injury, while running back Jordan Mason (left shoulder) and wideout Deebo Samuel (wrist) have been cleared to play against the Chiefs. Shanahan indicated that Jennings’ injury isn’t expected to be long-term, hoping he’ll be ready for next week.

Pearsall’s Role in the Offense

While it’s unclear how much Pearsall will play, Shanahan said he’ll be used “wherever he’s needed” and that he’s “healthy and ready to go.” With Jennings out, the Niners will rely on Pearsall, Chris Conley, Ronnie Bell, and Jacob Cowing behind starters Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk.

Kicker Anders Carlson Steps In

In other news, the Niners will have their third kicker in as many games, as Matthew Wright (back, shoulder) and Jake Moody (right ankle) have been ruled out. Anders Carlson, signed to the practice squad this week, will be elevated to play against the Chiefs. Shanahan confirmed that Wright will land on injured reserve, opening a roster spot.
