Uga Stays Home: No Rematch with Bevo for Georgia Mascot

Mascot Mayhem: The Tale of Uga and Bevo

This Saturday, the eyes of the college football world will be on the highly anticipated matchup between Georgia and Texas. But amidst the excitement, fans will be missing a key element – the presence of Georgia’s beloved mascot, Uga XI.

Travel Troubles for Uga XI

According to Charles Seiler, Uga’s owner, the 2½-year-old English bulldog won’t be making the trip to Austin due to logistical challenges. This isn’t the first time Uga XI has skipped a road game; he also missed Georgia’s match against Kentucky earlier this season. Seiler explained that the travel demands can be overwhelming for the young pup, saying, “That’s a lot of wear and tear on the dog.”

A Cautionary Tale of Mascot Mishaps

Fans may recall the infamous encounter between Uga X (also known as “Que”) and Texas’ longhorn steer mascot, Bevo, prior to the 2019 Sugar Bowl. In a pregame photo op, Bevo broke free from his restraints and appeared to charge at Uga X. Fortunately, neither mascot was injured, and they did manage to take a photo together later that day. Uga X sadly passed away in January.

A New Chapter for Uga XI

While Uga XI won’t be making an appearance this Saturday, fans can rest assured that he’ll be watching from the comfort of his own home. Seiler promised, “We’ll be watching on TV. It’s sure to be a good game.” As Uga XI continues to grow and mature, fans can look forward to seeing him at future games, hopefully without any more travel hiccups.

The Legacy Lives On

Though Uga XI won’t be in attendance, the spirit of the iconic Georgia mascot will undoubtedly be felt throughout the stadium. As the Bulldogs take on the Longhorns, fans will be eagerly anticipating the next chapter in the saga of Uga and Bevo.
