Get Ready for the Thrill of Professional Women’s Hockey!
The wait is finally over! The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) is gearing up for its second season, set to kick off on Saturday, November 30. This year, fans can look forward to an expanded schedule, featuring 30 games per team, up from 24 in the inaugural season.
A Season of Excitement Ahead
The action-packed season begins with a bang as the Boston Fleet takes on the Toronto Sceptres, followed by the Ottawa Charge facing off against the Montreal Victoire. The New York Sirens will travel to play the Minnesota Frost the following day, setting the stage for a thrilling season.
International Breaks and Neutral Site Games
To accommodate players’ national team commitments, the PWHL has scheduled three extended international breaks throughout the season. Weeklong breaks in December and March, as well as a 22-day break in April, will give players time to represent their countries. The league has also planned 14 neutral site games, to be announced in the coming weeks, which will be played at larger venues in teams’ home markets or neutral locations.
A Season of Rivalries and Rematches
One of the most highly anticipated matchups is the Frost’s visit to the Fleet on December 4, a rematch of the inaugural Walter Cup final. The Sirens, meanwhile, will have the latest home-opening date, on December 18, after starting the season with three road games. On April 26, all six teams will be in action, making for an unforgettable day of hockey.
A Balanced Schedule for All
The 90-game schedule is carefully crafted to ensure teams meet six times, with three games at home and three on the road. This balanced schedule promises to deliver exciting matchups and intense rivalries throughout the season.
The PWHL: Where Passion Meets Performance
As the PWHL senior VP of hockey operations Jayna Hefford noted, “Our teams and players are eager to bring their new identities to life, and the schedule announcement elevates that sense of anticipation.” With its expanded schedule, neutral site games, and international breaks, the PWHL is poised to take women’s hockey to new heights. Mark your calendars for November 30 and get ready to experience the thrill of professional women’s hockey!
