Figure Skating’s Grand Prix Season Kicks Off with Style
The 2024 Grand Prix season has officially begun, and the world’s top figure skaters are already making their mark. At the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas, 17-year-old Isabeau Levito stole the show with a stylish performance set to music from the classic film “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.”
A Star is Born
Levito, the reigning world silver medalist, scored an impressive 68.43 points in the short program, taking the lead ahead of American teammate Bradie Tennell and Japan’s Rinka Watanabe. Her black dress, inspired by Audrey Hepburn’s iconic character Holly Golightly, added a touch of elegance to her routine.
A Comeback Story
Tennell, a two-time U.S. champion, made a triumphant return to the ice after a five-month break due to a broken ankle. Her short program, set to music from the Irish dance show “Lord of the Dance,” was nearly flawless, with only a slight under-rotation on her triple lutz-triple toe loop combination.
Pairs Competition Heats Up
In the pairs competition, world silver medalists Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara of Japan took a commanding lead with a score of 77.79 points. Their rocking program, set to “Paint it Black” by The Rolling Stones, included a solid side-by-side triple toe loop and throw triple lutz.
Medals on the Line
The competition continues on Saturday with the rhythm dance and men’s short programs, followed by the pairs and women’s free skates, where the medals will be decided. With so much talent on display, it’s anyone’s game – but one thing is certain: the 2024 Grand Prix season is off to a thrilling start.
