Melbourne United Bounces Back with Dominant Win
After a week of stewing over their home opener loss, Melbourne United came out strong on Sunday, defeating the previously hot Adelaide 36ers 106-79. The win marked the 450th game for captain Chris Goulding, who contributed 13 points to the effort.
A High-Scoring First Half
The first half was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams trading momentum swings. Adelaide finished the opening quarter strongly, taking a 29-24 lead. However, Melbourne worked its way to the top, leading 58-52 by halftime. Ian Clark was a standout performer for United, eventually finishing with 18 points and three assists.
Melbourne Dominates the Third Quarter
The third period was all Melbourne, as the team outscored Adelaide 21-8. Big man Marcus Lee was unstoppable, going on an individual 8-0 run and finishing with 13 points, five rebounds, and three blocks. The home side’s dominance continued in the fourth quarter, ultimately winning by 27 points.
A Well-Rounded Effort
Melbourne’s win was a team effort, with several players contributing to the victory. Rob Loe added 16 points and six rebounds, Jack White chipped in with 15 points and seven boards, and Matthew Dellavedova had 11 points and eight assists. The team’s field-goal shooting was impressive, hitting 53% of its shots, and it notched 26 assists to just eight turnovers.
Adelaide Struggles
In contrast, Adelaide looked tired, shooting just 37% from the field and going 3-of-16 from three-point range. Isaac Humphries was a bright spot, scoring 16 points, grabbing six rebounds, and blocking three shots. However, captain DJ Vasiljevic had a tough outing, managing just eight points and three turnovers on 3-of-12 shooting.
