Cowboys’ Owner Jerry Jones Unleashes Frustration on Radio Hosts
In a heated exchange on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, Jerry Jones, the owner and general manager of the Dallas Cowboys, defended his team’s roster and decisions amidst a disappointing 3-3 start to the season. Jones’ ire was raised when questioned about the team’s lack of aggressiveness in the offseason.
A Threat to Radio Hosts
Jones appeared to threaten the jobs of hosts Shan Shariff, R.J. Choppy, and Bobby Belt, saying, “That’s not your job or I’ll get somebody else to ask these questions, men. No, no. I’m not kidding.” The Cowboys’ owner was adamant that the hosts were overstepping their bounds by questioning his decisions.
Defending the Roster
Jones stood firm in his belief that the Cowboys have an outstanding roster, citing recent record-breaking deals with quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. He acknowledged that the team’s defense has been hampered by injuries but emphasized that every team faces similar challenges.
No Coaching Changes Coming
When asked about a potential head-coaching change with Mike McCarthy, Jones quickly shut down the idea, citing his experience in 2010 when he replaced Wade Phillips with Jason Garrett. Jones expressed regret over that decision, which ultimately led to Phillips winning a Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos as their defensive coordinator.
Focus on the Present
Jones made it clear that he’s not interested in dwelling on past decisions, saying, “I’ve got more time than that and I don’t even have time on this great show for looking back at decisions.” With the Cowboys heading into their Week 7 bye, Jones is focused on finding solutions to get his team back on track.
A Call to Action
Jones urged his team to take responsibility for their performance, saying, “We’ve just made our bed relative to how we’re going to approach with our key people… Now it’s time to execute.” As the Cowboys look to bounce back from their worst home loss under Jones’ tenure, it’s clear that the owner is demanding more from his team.
