Stormy Weather Forces Volleyball Tournament Relocation
The Southern Conference has made a crucial decision to relocate its volleyball tournament championship from Asheville, North Carolina, to Spartanburg, South Carolina, due to the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Helene. This move will allow the storm-ravaged area to focus on recovery and rebuilding.
New Venue, Same Excitement
The tournament, scheduled to take place from November 21-24, will now be held on the campus of Wofford College in Spartanburg. The champion of the tournament will still receive an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, ensuring that the excitement and competition remain unchanged.
A Necessary Move
According to League Commissioner Michael Cross, Asheville officials and tournament organizers agreed that relocating the event was the best decision to give the area time to recover from the hurricane’s destruction. Hurricane Helene, which made landfall in Florida last month, left a trail of devastation across several Southeastern states, resulting in at least 246 fatalities, making it the deadliest hurricane to hit the mainland U.S. since Katrina.
Tickets Honored
Fans who purchased tickets for the original Asheville facility will be relieved to know that their tickets will be honored at Wofford College, ensuring that they can still be a part of the action.
A New Home for Volleyball
The Southern Conference’s decision to relocate the tournament championship demonstrates its commitment to supporting the affected communities while ensuring the continued success of its athletic events. With the new venue in place, volleyball enthusiasts can look forward to an unforgettable tournament experience in Spartanburg.
