Playing Through Pain: Brandon Nimmo’s Determination
New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo is refusing to let a painful condition hold him back in the National League Championship Series. Despite dealing with plantar fasciitis in his left foot, Nimmo intends to continue playing, as he revealed to The Athletic.
A Persistent Problem
Nimmo has been battling the condition since May, and it flared up again during Game 3 of the NL Division Series against the Philadelphia Phillies. The pain is most severe when he runs, but he is less affected when batting or playing defense. “I think when I really need it, I’m probably not 100 percent, but I can get going pretty good,” Nimmo said of his ability to run. “But it’s uncomfortable.”
Managing the Pain
With the Mets trailing 1-0 in the best-of-seven series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Nimmo knows he doesn’t have time to let the injury heal. For now, he is relying on stretching, painkillers, and anti-inflammatories to get him through. “It’s the NLCS,” he told The Athletic. “You do whatever you can in order to get out there and help in any way you can.”
A Key Contributor
Nimmo, 31, was a vital part of the Mets’ regular season success, despite a .224 batting average. In 151 games, he hit 23 homers with 90 RBIs and 15 stolen bases – both career highs. In his ninth season with the Mets, he has appeared in 911 games and has a .261 average with 110 homers and 371 RBIs. This postseason, he is hitting .241 (7-for-29) with one home run and four RBIs.
Determination and Grit
Nimmo’s determination to play through pain is a testament to his commitment to his team and the sport. As the Mets look to even the series, Nimmo will be a crucial factor in their success. Will his grit and determination be enough to propel the Mets to victory? Only time will tell.
