Sacramento Kings Star De’Aaron Fox Makes Strategic Decision on Contract Extension
In a move that signals his long-term commitment to the Sacramento Kings, All-Star point guard De’Aaron Fox is opting to forgo a three-year, $165 million maximum extension this year. According to sources, Fox and his representative, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports, are positioning themselves for a more lucrative deal in the 2025 offseason.
A Calculated Risk
By waiting until next summer, Fox will become eligible for a four-year, $229 million maximum extension with the Kings. Moreover, if he earns an All-NBA team selection, he could potentially land a five-year, $345 million supermax deal. This strategic decision underscores Fox’s confidence in his abilities and his value to the team.
Commitment to the Kings
Fox has consistently expressed his desire to be a key part of the Kings’ future. The franchise has reciprocated this commitment, working closely with Fox and other top players on major decisions this offseason. Notably, the Kings acquired All-Star DeMar DeRozan, further solidifying their roster.
On-Court Performance
The 26-year-old Fox is coming off a career-high 26.6 points per game last season. He also ranked second in total points in the fourth quarter, behind only new teammate DeRozan. Fox is set to earn nearly $35 million this season and $37 million next season under his current contract.
Looking Ahead
The Kings will begin their regular season at home on October 24 against the Minnesota Timberwolves. As the team looks to build on its momentum from last season, Fox’s decision to wait on a contract extension serves as a testament to his dedication to the franchise’s success.
