Colts QB Anthony Richardson Set to Return to Starting Lineup
After a two-game hiatus, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson is ready to take the reins again. Richardson’s return comes on the heels of an oblique injury that sidelined him in Week 4, giving veteran Joe Flacco a chance to shine.
A Fresh Start for Richardson
Richardson’s injury forced him to miss crucial game time, but Colts coach Shane Steichen believes he’s now fully healed. This week, Richardson took all the starter’s reps and participated fully in practice for the first time since his injury. Steichen was impressed, saying, “He looked good… throwing crisp passes, right in the pocket, got out, moved him around, ran a lot. So, he looked really good.”
Consistency is Key for Richardson
Richardson’s return is crucial for the Colts, who have struggled to find consistency since he was drafted fourth in 2023. He’s missed 15 of a possible 21 regular-season games, and his dual-threat abilities have been sorely missed. With Richardson back under center, the Colts hope to regain their footing and get their season back on track.
Taylor’s Timetable Remains Uncertain
While Richardson’s return is a welcome boost, the Colts will still be without running back Jonathan Taylor for a third straight game. Taylor’s high ankle sprain has kept him sidelined, despite his assertions that he’s close to returning to practice. Coach Steichen remains optimistic, saying, “He’s very close.”
The Impact on the Colts’ Rushing Game
Taylor’s absence has been felt acutely in the Colts’ rushing game. In Weeks 1 through 4, Indianapolis averaged 132 rushing yards, but in the past two games, they’ve managed a paltry 90 yards. With Richardson back, the Colts hope to revitalize their running game and get back to their winning ways.
