Injury Bug Bites Iowa Football

As the Hawkeyes prepare to face Michigan State, they’ll be without two key starters due to injuries. Starting left guard Beau Stephens and No. 2 tight end Addison Ostrenga will both be sidelined, dealing a significant blow to Iowa’s depth.

Ostrenga’s Extended Absence

Ostrenga, who suffered a right arm injury during the October 5th matchup against Ohio State, will miss his second consecutive game. The junior tight end was spotted with his arm in a sling last week, and Coach Kirk Ferentz has confirmed that he’ll be out for “several weeks.” Ostrenga has been a valuable asset to the team, starting two games alongside primary tight end Luke Lachey and racking up 11 receptions for 63 yards and a touchdown this season.

Stephens Sidelined with Ankle Injury

Meanwhile, Stephens, who has started all six games at left guard, suffered an ankle injury against Washington. Although initial concerns were alleviated, Ferentz confirmed that Stephens won’t play on Saturday. “He was out there today walking around, but he has a ways to go,” Ferentz said. Senior Tyler Elsbury is set to fill Stephens’ shoes at Michigan State.

New Faces Stepping Up

Sophomore Zach Ortwerth will take on Ostrenga’s role, while Ferentz remains hopeful that fullback Hayden Large, who missed the Washington game with an ankle injury, can return to action at Michigan State. As the Hawkeyes navigate these personnel changes, they’ll need to rely on their depth and adaptability to stay competitive.
