Second Chance: Brandon McManus Finds New Opportunity with Green Bay Packers

After a tumultuous few months, Brandon McManus is getting another shot at the NFL. The veteran kicker, who was released by the Washington Commanders in the offseason, has signed with the Green Bay Packers. This comes less than three weeks after the NFL cleared him of any disciplinary action related to a lawsuit accusing him of sexual assault.

A Fresh Start

McManus expressed his gratitude to the Packers organization for giving him a second chance. “It’s been a difficult time these last couple of months,” he said. “I’m happy that it’s in the past now. I was hoping and working hard for another opportunity. I’m extremely grateful for the Green Bay Packers for giving me that next chance to come back out here and play the game I love.”

The Road to Redemption

The lawsuit, filed by two women who were working as flight attendants on the chartered airline used by the Jacksonville Jaguars, has been “resolved,” according to McManus. However, details of the resolution remain unclear. Attorney Brett Gallaway, who represents McManus, confirmed that the case has been resolved, but declined to provide further information.

Due Diligence

Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said the team closely followed the league’s investigation and conducted their own background work before signing McManus. “I think for us really obviously he wouldn’t be available right now if those accusations weren’t out there,” Gutekunst said. “But I think the league did a really thorough investigation, and we leaned on that as we went through it.”

A Proven Track Record

McManus brings a wealth of experience to the Packers, having spent 10 seasons with the Denver Broncos and making 30 of 37 field goals and all 35 of his extra points in his lone season with the Jaguars last year. The Packers have struggled with kicking consistency since midway through last season, and McManus’ proven track record could provide a much-needed boost.

A New Chapter

As McManus prepares to take the field against the Houston Texans on Sunday, he’s focused on making the most of his second chance. “I think where our football team is at right now, we know how important these games are,” Gutekunst said. “I thought it was important that if we had an opportunity to get a veteran kicker who’d been through some of these fires and some of this pressure that our team is going to go through over the next few weeks, I thought it was important that we acquire one.”
