Women’s Basketball Superstars: Everything You Need to Know About the WNBA

Women’s Basketball Takes Center Court

Get ready for a slam dunk of a season! The Unrivaled women’s basketball 3-on-3 league is gearing up for its inaugural season, and fans won’t have to look far to catch the action. In a major coup, the league has secured a multiyear partnership with TNT to broadcast over 45 games, starting in January.

Prime Time for Women’s Hoops

TNT will air matchups three nights a week, with Mondays and Fridays featuring twice-weekly games on the main network. Saturday games will be shown on truTV. The excitement kicks off on January 17, with all games taking place in Miami. According to Luis Silberwasser, chairman & CEO of TNT Sports, this partnership cements the network’s commitment to showcasing top-tier women’s sports programming.

A League of Their Own

Co-founded by basketball superstars Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart, Unrivaled brings together 30 of the world’s top women’s basketball players, divided into six teams. The league’s focus on premium live sports and its media and equity partnership with TNT promises to elevate women’s basketball to new heights.

Players Reap the Rewards

Salaries for Unrivaled players will reach six figures, a significant step up from the average WNBA base salary of $130,000. Compensation was a key factor in attracting top talent, many of whom have previously had to supplement their incomes by playing overseas. As an added incentive, players will also hold an equity stake in the league.

The Season Ahead

The eight-week season will feature two games per week, played on a court slightly smaller than a WNBA court. The teams will remain the same throughout the season, ensuring fans get to know their favorite players inside and out. With TNT on board, women’s basketball is poised to reach a wider audience than ever before. As Collier noted, “Having a network like TNT supporting us in Year 1 is a huge testament to women’s basketball right now and how much it’s growing.”
