Pederson: Jaguars Need Wins, Not Culture Change

Jaguars Seek to Shift Culture Amid Disappointing Start

The Jacksonville Jaguars are struggling to find their footing, with a 1-5 record that has coach Doug Pederson emphasizing the need for a cultural transformation. Pederson’s message is clear: the team must break free from the mindset of losing and adopt a winning mentality.

Overcoming Mental Defeat

“We want to change the culture to a winning culture,” Pederson said via Zoom from London. “That’s why we coach and that’s why we play. We don’t want our players to feel mentally defeated, because that’s where the slippery slope begins.” The coach’s concerns are valid, given the Jaguars’ dismal record and recent performances.

A Tough Stretch Ahead

The team’s upcoming schedule won’t make things easier. After facing the New England Patriots (1-5) in London, they’ll take on a string of formidable opponents, including Green Bay, Philadelphia, Minnesota, Detroit, and Houston – teams with a combined 21-6 record. It’s a daunting task for a team trying to learn how to win.

Maintaining Positivity

Pederson’s approach is centered on keeping his players mentally positive and focused. “We’ve just got to make sure these guys stay positive with each other, stay positive during the week,” he said. “Bottom line is just go out and have fun and play. Winning obviously helps that.” The coach’s words echo the sentiments of safety Andre Cisco, who recently expressed concerns about defensive players quitting in the second half of a game.

A Glimmer of Hope

Despite the challenges ahead, Pederson remains optimistic. He believes that by shifting the team’s culture and maintaining a positive mindset, the Jaguars can turn their season around. With their next game against the Patriots looming, the team will look to capitalize on their opponent’s struggles and secure a much-needed win.
