The Cowboy Rides Again: Donald Cerrone Eyes Historic 50th Fight
In a stunning turn of events, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone has announced his return to the world of mixed martial arts, seeking to make history by reaching 50 combined fights in the UFC and WEC. The 41-year-old veteran, who retired in July 2022, aims to add two more bouts to his impressive resume.
A Legendary Career
Cerrone’s journey in the UFC and WEC spans over 15 years, with 48 combined appearances since 2007. Although he retired amidst a six-fight losing streak, his passion for the sport never wavered. With 23 wins and 38 total appearances, Cerrone is tied for second all-time in wins and third in total appearances. He trails only Jim Miller, who holds the record with 26 wins and 44 appearances.
A New Chapter Begins
In a video posted on Instagram, Cerrone revealed his plans to come out of retirement, citing his desire to reach the milestone of 50 fights. He’s been working with Transcend, a health and wellness company, to prepare for his return. Cerrone has been taking testosterone-replacement therapy and peptides, and is confident in his ability to pass the UFC’s anti-drug program.
More Than Just a Number
While reaching 50 fights is a significant goal, Cerrone’s ambitions extend beyond that. He’s set his sights on becoming the UFC’s all-time leader in wins, finishes, bonuses, and walks to the cage. The Cowboy’s determination to leave a lasting legacy in the sport is clear.
A Shot at Redemption
Cerrone’s return also presents an opportunity for redemption. In 2015, he came up short against Rafael dos Anjos in his bid for the UFC lightweight championship. With two more fights on the horizon, Cerrone will look to prove himself once again as one of the greatest fighters in UFC history.
The stage is set for the Cowboy’s triumphant return. Will he achieve his goals and cement his place in the annals of MMA history? Only time will tell.
