NLCS Roster Shuffle: Mets Add McNeil, Dodgers Make Adjustments
The New York Mets have made a significant addition to their roster for the National League Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Jeff McNeil, who fractured his right wrist just over five weeks ago, has been added to the team’s roster. This move comes after McNeil played back-to-back games in the Arizona Fall League, demonstrating his readiness to return to action.
McNeil’s Role
With Jose Iglesias locked in as the regular second baseman, McNeil is likely to see starts at one of the outfield corners or be used as a left-handed bat off the bench. His bat could prove invaluable, especially given the Dodgers’ loss of key left-handed reliever Alex Vesia due to an intercostal injury. The Dodgers have replaced Vesia with right-hander Brent Honeywell, who will provide length out of the bullpen.
Dodgers’ Roster Adjustments
The Dodgers have made some notable adjustments to their roster as well. Miguel Rojas, who has been playing through a tear in an adductor muscle, did not make the NLCS roster. He has been replaced by left-handed-hitting center fielder Kevin Kiermaier. This move means Tommy Edman will take over as the everyday shortstop, prompting Enrique Hernandez to start in center field.
Injury Concerns
The Dodgers are also dealing with an injury concern in Freddie Freeman, who is nursing a sprained right ankle. If Freeman is unable to play at any point in the series, the Dodgers will likely move Max Muncy to first base and Hernandez to third, with Andy Pages taking over in center.
Mets’ Roster Breakdown
The Mets have opted for a roster breakdown of 14 position players and 12 pitchers, leaving veteran right-hander Adam Ottavino off the roster. Luisangel Acuña will serve as a backup infielder, providing additional depth for the team. With these roster moves, both teams are set to face off in what promises to be an exciting NLCS matchup.
