Slithering Shock: Snake Invades Dodgers’ Dugout
In a bizarre incident, a snake slithered its way into the Los Angeles Dodgers’ dugout during Game 2 of the National League Championship Series against the New York Mets on Monday. The reptile made its unexpected appearance in the top of the fifth inning, when the Dodgers were trailing by six runs.
A Brief Distraction
The snake, which wasn’t large enough to cause panic, was quickly wrapped in a towel and removed by a member of the grounds crew. Despite the brief distraction, the Dodgers continued to struggle, eventually losing the game 7-3.
A Glimmer of Hope
However, the Dodgers did manage to narrow their deficit thanks to Max Muncy’s solo home run in the fifth and Tommy Edman’s two-run single in the sixth. Although their rally fell short, the team remained optimistic about the unusual visitor’s potential impact.
Rally Snake or Not?
Los Angeles reliever Brent Honeywell joked about the snake’s potential to spark a rally, saying, “I was hoping it was a rally snake and we turned a rally around right after that. But just something to get the boys moving a little different [after] everything else.” Unfortunately, the snake didn’t have the same effect as the San Diego Padres’ rally goose, which landed on the field at Dodger Stadium in 2022.
Hollywood Inspiration
Fox play-by-play commentator Joe Davis couldn’t resist making a humorous comparison, quipping, “We’ve had ‘Snakes on a Plane’, ‘Snakes on a Train’ and the latest Hollywood hit: ‘Snake in the Dugout.’” The unusual incident added a touch of excitement to an otherwise disappointing game for the Dodgers.
