Notre Dame Loses Key Player to Season-Ending Injury

A devastating blow has struck the Notre Dame football team, as junior cornerback Benjamin Morrison will miss the remainder of the season due to a hip injury. Morrison, a projected first-round NFL draft pick, sustained the injury during Saturday’s 49-7 win against Stanford.

A Promising Career Put on Hold

Morrison has been a stalwart in the Notre Dame secondary, starting every game throughout his career. This season, he had accumulated 20 tackles and four pass breakups in six starts. His impressive performance as a true freshman in 2022 earned him national recognition, as he led the team with six interceptions and finished seventh nationally.

A Legacy of Excellence

As the son of former NFL safety Darryl Morrison, Benjamin has always had a strong foundation in football. His outstanding play has earned him numerous accolades, including a semifinalist nod for the Thorpe Award in 2023. ESPN’s Mel Kiper lists Morrison at No. 20 on his Big Board for the 2025 NFL draft, while Matt Miller ranks him as the No. 2 draft-eligible cornerback.

The Road to Recovery

Coach Marcus Freeman expressed his disappointment and concern for Morrison’s well-being, saying, “You lose a captain, great football player, and you feel terrible for the kid. He gives football, he gives preparation, everything he has.” Morrison will undergo surgery and begin the rehabilitation process, with the goal of returning to the field stronger than ever.

Next Man Up

With Morrison’s absence, Notre Dame will rely on freshmen Leonard Moore and Karson Hobbs to fill the void at cornerback. Jordan Clark, the team’s starting nickelback, may also see time at Morrison’s spot. Despite the challenges, Coach Freeman remains confident in his team’s ability to adapt and overcome.

Injury Woes Continue

Notre Dame has been plagued by a series of season-ending injuries, including those to defensive linemen Boubacar Traore and Jordan Botelho, and offensive linemen Ashton Craig and Charles Jagusah. The 12th-ranked Irish will face Georgia Tech this week at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, with wide receiver Jordan Faison expected to be available despite not being 100 percent.
