Utah Quarterback Cam Rising Sidelined Indefinitely
Utah Utes coach Kyle Whittingham delivered some devastating news on Monday, announcing that quarterback Cam Rising will be out indefinitely due to a lower-leg injury. This latest setback marks another chapter in Rising’s injury-plagued career.
A Career Marked by Injuries
Rising’s history of injuries dates back to the 2020 season when he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in the first game. He also exited the Rose Bowl game in 2021 due to a concussion and sat out the entire 2023 season after sustaining a serious knee injury in the Rose Bowl the previous year.
Uncertainty Surrounds Rising’s Future
Whittingham hinted at the possibility of Rising having another season of eligibility, but it remains unclear if that will happen. The coach stated, “Now that we’re in the situation that we’re in, that’s a possibility. We’ll have to explore that in detail with the compliance department.” However, Rising’s interest in pursuing this route is uncertain, and he needs time to focus on his current injury.
Isaac Wilson Steps Up as Starter
In Rising’s absence, true freshman Isaac Wilson will take over as the starting quarterback. Wilson, a four-star prospect and brother of NFL quarterback Zach Wilson, has already shown promise this season. He has completed 68 of 122 passes for 830 yards, with six touchdowns and seven interceptions. The Utes have won two of Wilson’s three starts, and Whittingham is confident in his abilities.
Looking Ahead
The Utes currently sit at 4-2 overall and 1-2 in the Big 12 conference. With Wilson at the helm, they will look to continue their winning ways and make a push for a successful season. As for Rising, his future remains uncertain, but one thing is clear – he needs time to focus on his health and recovery.
