Postseason Baseball Ratings Soar
Major League Baseball’s postseason has gotten off to a flying start, with average viewership up 18% from last year. The division series, which featured several thrilling matchups, drew an average of 3.56 million viewers per game, a 14% increase over 2023.
Thrilling Series Drive Ratings Boost
Two series that went the full five games, combined with the presence of big-market teams like the New York Yankees and Mets, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Philadelphia Phillies, contributed to the surge in viewership. The Dodgers’ decisive Game 5 victory over the San Diego Padres on Friday night averaged 7.5 million viewers across Fox, Fox Deportes, and streaming platforms, making it the most-watched division series game since 2017.
Daytime Baseball Draws Big Audience
The following day, the Cleveland Guardians’ win over the Detroit Tigers in a rescheduled game averaged 3.42 million viewers on TBS, the largest audience for a division series daytime game in 17 years. The game was originally set for a nighttime slot but was moved up due to weather concerns.
Networks Reap Benefits of Postseason Coverage
Fox and FS1 enjoyed their highest postseason ratings since 2014, averaging 4.09 million viewers for National League games. The network’s coverage of the Phillies-Mets series, which the Mets won in four games, was a major contributor to this success. Meanwhile, TNT Sports averaged 3 million viewers for American League division series games on TBS and TNT, including the Yankees’ four-game sweep of the Kansas City Royals.
Strong Start for MLB Postseason
As the league championship series gets underway, Major League Baseball is riding a wave of momentum, with fans tuning in to watch the sport’s top teams battle it out for a World Series berth. With its mix of exciting matchups, big-name stars, and dramatic finishes, the postseason has something for everyone – and the ratings are reflecting that.
