Across the Pond, Bears Safety Jaquan Brisker Sidelined with Concussion
In a precautionary move, the Chicago Bears have ruled out safety Jaquan Brisker for their upcoming matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. Brisker, who did not travel with the team, is currently in the NFL’s concussion protocol after exhibiting symptoms on Monday.
This marks the third diagnosed concussion for Brisker since the 2022 season. The incident occurred during the Bears’ 36-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers, when Brisker collided with tight end Tommy Tremble in the second quarter. Despite forcing a fumble on the play, Brisker remained in the game until the final series.
Bears General Manager Ryan Poles explained that Brisker was initially cleared to play but later developed symptoms, prompting the team to take a cautious approach. “We want to respect that and make sure he’s healthy as we move forward,” Poles stated.
In Brisker’s absence, Elijah Hicks is slated to start in his place. Meanwhile, the Bears are encouraged by the progress of rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, who turned in a stellar performance against the Panthers. Williams completed 20 of 29 passes for 304 yards, 2 touchdowns, and no turnovers, earning a 126.2 passer rating.
Poles praised Williams’ growth, citing his ability to learn from mistakes and develop a winning mentality. “I think he’s learning how to play professional football,” Poles said. “He’s right where he should be, and he’s continuing to get better.”
When asked about comparisons to fellow rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, who has experienced success with the Washington Commanders, Poles emphasized the importance of Williams focusing on his own journey. “Everyone’s journey is gonna be different,” Poles noted. “I think the important thing is for Caleb to understand that as well and run his own race.”
Williams echoed this sentiment, stating that he doesn’t compare himself to other rookie QBs. “I think the biggest thing is not trying to be in someone else’s shoes,” Williams said. “I focus on being myself, and that’s what I’m going to do – be who I am, be explosive as an offense, and help my team win.”
