In a stunning upset, the New York Giants took down the Seattle Seahawks 29-20, thanks in large part to the breakout performance of rookie running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. The fifth-round pick made his first career start in place of the injured Devin Singletary, and he didn’t disappoint. Tracy burst onto the scene with a 27-yard gain early in the second quarter, showcasing his speed and agility as he cut through the Seahawks’ defense.
Tracy’s impressive outing earned him 129 rushing yards on 18 carries, good for an average of 7.2 yards per carry. He became the fourth Giants rookie to reach 125 rushing yards in a game in the Super Bowl era, joining elite company alongside Saquon Barkley, Andre Williams, and Ahmad Bradshaw.
Coach Brian Daboll was impressed with Tracy’s performance, praising his ability to break through tackles and make extra yards with the ball in his hand. Tracy’s speed was on full display, as he hit 15+ mph on seven of his 30 rushing attempts this season.
With Singletary expected to return soon, the Giants will need to find ways to incorporate Tracy into the offense more regularly. A timeshare between the two running backs seems likely, with Tracy’s explosive playmaking ability adding a new dimension to the team’s attack.
Tracy credits the Giants’ improved offensive line for his success, saying they created “amazing holes” for him to run through. The rookie running back is earning the trust of his coach and teammates, and his performance in Seattle will only increase his chances of seeing more playing time as the season progresses.
