UK Tennis Star Exits Wuhan Open in Disappointing First-Round Loss
In a stunning upset, Britain’s top-ranked tennis player, Katie Boulter, has been eliminated from the Wuhan Open in the opening round. The 24-year-old was defeated in straight sets by Ukraine’s Lesia Tsurenko, who dominated the match from start to finish.
Tsurenko made quick work of Boulter in the first set, winning 6-2 with ease. The second set proved to be a more competitive affair, but ultimately ended in a 7-5 victory for the Ukrainian.
This outcome marks a reversal of fortunes for Boulter, who had previously bested Tsurenko in San Diego en route to claiming the tournament title. Tsurenko will now move on to face Poland’s Magda Linette in the Round of 32.
