Vancouver Showdown: England’s Electrifying Attack Secures Dominant Win Over New Zealand
In a thrilling encounter, England’s rugby team continued their unbeaten streak at the WXV 1 tournament, defeating New Zealand 49-31 on Sunday. The English side’s scorching attack, led by hat-trick hero Jess Breach and dual try-scorers Abby Dow and Ellie Kildunne, proved too much for the Black Ferns to handle.
New Zealand drew first blood in the sixth minute, but England responded with three unanswered tries, taking control of the match. The second half saw England extend their lead to 39-12, with their attacking prowess leaving the Kiwis struggling to keep up.
While New Zealand managed to score points of their own, the outcome was never in doubt, as England’s coach John Mitchell praised his team’s exceptional performance. “When they’re firing on all cylinders, they’re unstoppable. They’re a very special group, and for large parts of the game, they were absolutely on fire.”
Mitchell highlighted the team’s focus on executing their final passes, saying, “We have a high standard around our last pass, and it was great to see that executed today.” He also acknowledged the team’s willingness to adapt, stating, “We’re no longer just a forward pack or a backline; we conceded a few tries, but that wasn’t due to a lack of intent. We’ll just look to score more if people score against us.”
Next up, England will face off against Canada, who are also undefeated in WXV 1, while New Zealand will aim to secure their first win of the competition against France.
