Fantasy Basketball: Avoid These Players at All Costs
When it comes to fantasy basketball, value is key. While some players may have impressive stats, their injury-prone nature or lack of well-rounded skills can make them a liability for your team. Here are some players to avoid drafting early, including a few surprises.
Zion Williamson, despite playing a career-high 70 games last season, is still a risky pick. His injury history and limited statistical contributions make him a poor investment in the early rounds. Similarly, Paolo Banchero, the league’s top rookie in 2022-23, may have improved in some areas, but his lack of rebounding, blocks, and efficient shooting make him overhyped.
LeBron James, turning 40 this season, is another player to approach with caution. While he defied Father Time last season, his age and injury history make him a risky pick in the early rounds. Ja Morant, Kyrie Irving, and Kawhi Leonard are also players to avoid due to their unreliability and injury-prone nature.
Newcomers to the “Do Not Draft” list include LaMelo Ball, who has played in just 58 games over the past two seasons due to recurring ankle injuries. Mikal Bridges, despite being a wonderful player, is likely to see a decrease in scoring opportunities with the Knicks’ new additions. Kristaps Porzingis, recovering from offseason foot surgery, is unlikely to play in more than 60 games this season. Finally, Khris Middleton, coming off surgical procedures on both ankles, is a risky pick at 33 years old.
Remember, when drafting, prioritize players with a well-rounded game, scoring, rebounding, assists, blocks, and efficient shooting. Avoid players with a history of injuries or limited statistical contributions.
