In a thrilling matchup, the Minnesota Lynx secured a spot in the WNBA Finals for the first time in seven years, defeating the Connecticut Sun 88-77 on Tuesday night. The Lynx were led by Napheesa Collier, who dominated the court with 27 points and 11 rebounds, and Courtney Williams, who brought an infectious energy with 24 points and impressive all-around play.
The Lynx got off to a strong start, thanks in part to Kayla McBride’s 10-point first quarter. They would go on to build a lead as large as 21 points in the second quarter, a margin they would maintain for much of the game. The Sun struggled to find their rhythm, shooting a dismal 38.5% from the floor and committing 19 turnovers that the Lynx capitalized on for 22 points.
DiJonai Carrington and Brionna Jones led the Sun’s efforts, combining for 33 points and 22 rebounds. However, it was Williams who stole the show, playing with a level of intensity and determination that inspired her teammates. She added seven assists, five rebounds, and two steals to her impressive stat line.
The Lynx will now face off against the top-seeded New York Liberty in the WNBA Finals, a series that promises to be highly competitive. The two teams have already clashed four times this season, with the Lynx emerging victorious in three of those matchups, including the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup.
As the Lynx celebrate their return to the WNBA Finals, they do so with a sense of redemption, having been ousted in the semifinals by the Sun just last season. With Collier and Williams leading the charge, they’re poised to make a deep run in the playoffs and bring home their fifth championship title.
