In a disappointing turn of events, Saints quarterback Derek Carr was forced to exit Monday’s matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs due to an oblique injury sustained in the fourth quarter. The severity of the injury remains uncertain, with Carr scheduled to undergo an MRI on Tuesday to determine the extent of the damage.
When questioned about his condition, Carr expressed concern, stating simply, “Not good.” The injury occurred as Carr attempted to throw a pass to wide receiver Mason Tipton on fourth down, with the quarterback clutching his hip as he left the field.
Despite his confidence in the team’s ability to secure a win prior to the injury, Carr acknowledged that he was unable to continue playing due to the oblique issue, which affected his ability to make effective throws rather than being a matter of pain tolerance.
Carr sought guidance from the medical staff regarding his potential return to the game, but was informed that there was insufficient time to do so. As a result, backup quarterback Jake Haener took over for Carr on the subsequent offensive series.
Looking ahead to Sunday’s clash with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Carr’s status remains uncertain. However, he vowed to do everything in his power to ensure his availability for the game, stating, “I’m going to do anything I can to make sure I’m there on Sunday.”
This marks the fourth occasion in which Carr has been forced to leave a game due to injury during his two seasons with the Saints, following previous incidents involving a sprained AC joint in his shoulder and two instances of concussion protocol.
