Renowned football strategist Jürgen Klopp is poised to make a triumphant return to the sport, this time as the global soccer chief at Red Bull. Effective January 1, 2025, Klopp will spearhead the Austrian energy drink giant’s network of clubs, bringing his vast experience and expertise to the table.
While he won’t be directly involved in the daily operations of the clubs, Klopp will play a pivotal role in shaping their strategic vision, guiding sporting directors, and bolstering their global scouting efforts. He’ll also lend his expertise to coach development and training programs.
This marks Klopp’s first official foray back into football since departing Liverpool at the end of the 2023-24 season, following an illustrious nine-year tenure that yielded unprecedented success. According to German media reports, Klopp’s contract includes a clause that would allow him to exit if the German national team coaching position becomes available after the 2026 World Cup.
Klopp’s impressive managerial résumé, which includes stints at Mainz, Borussia Dortmund, and Liverpool, makes him an ideal fit for this role. He’ll work closely with Red Bull’s diverse portfolio of clubs, including RB Leipzig, New York Red Bulls, Red Bull Bragantino, and Omiya Ardija in Japan.
“I’m thrilled to embark on this new chapter, combining my passion for football with Red Bull’s innovative spirit,” Klopp exclaimed. “By harnessing the collective expertise and resources at our disposal, I believe we can unlock unprecedented potential and push the boundaries of what’s possible in the sport.”
Red Bull CEO Oliver Mintzlaff hailed Klopp’s appointment as a major coup, saying, “Jürgen is a titan in the world of football, boasting exceptional skills, charisma, and a proven track record of success. His influence will be instrumental in elevating our clubs to new heights, both individually and collectively.”
