Houston Texans’ Star Wideout Sidelined with Hamstring Injury
The Houston Texans breathed a sigh of relief after their thrilling 23-20 victory over the Buffalo Bills, but their joy was short-lived as they received news that star wide receiver Nico Collins would be sidelined with a hamstring injury. Coach DeMeco Ryans revealed that Collins is considered week-to-week, and his availability for the next game remains uncertain.
Despite the setback, Ryans expressed optimism about Collins’ recovery, stating that he’s in good spirits and that the team will evaluate his progress on a weekly basis. According to reports, there’s a possibility that Collins could return for the Texans’ Week 6 matchup against the New England Patriots.
Collins’ injury occurred during a spectacular 67-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter, which left him unable to continue playing. He finished the game with two receptions for 78 yards, adding to his impressive season totals of 32 catches, 567 yards, and three touchdowns.
The Texans’ offense, already missing running back Joe Mixon, will face an uphill battle without Collins. Mixon, who rushed for 159 yards in the season opener, has been sidelined since Week 2 and is still recovering from his injury. Ryans expressed hope that Mixon would return soon, but a specific timeline remains unclear.
Quarterback C.J. Stroud acknowledged the team’s struggles in the second half, citing penalties and turnovers as major factors. He praised the efforts of Stefon Diggs, who led the team with six receptions for 82 yards, but admitted that Collins’ absence significantly impacted the offense.
Stroud described Collins as the best receiver in football, emphasizing the importance of his presence on the field. Coach Ryans echoed this sentiment, stressing that the team needs to come together to fill the void left by Collins. “Nobody has to be Nico,” Ryans said. “When your number is called, make the plays that you’re supposed to make.”
