**F**king Hell, Yeo’s World Club Challenge Absence is a Damn Shame!

The reigning NRL champions, Penrith Panthers, have made the tough decision to opt out of the World Club Challenge, citing logistical nightmares and player welfare concerns. This comes after their historic fourth consecutive premiership win over Melbourne on Sunday.

The Panthers were set to face the winner of the Super League decider between Wigan and Hull KR, but their upcoming trip to Las Vegas for the 2025 season opener has thrown a spanner in the works. The usual timing of the World Club Challenge, which takes place in either England or Australia just before the NRL regular season, is now in conflict with their Vegas commitments.

Furthermore, at least 12 players will be participating in Samoa’s tour of England or the Pacific Championships, which will disrupt their pre-season preparations. The club has learned from past experiences, having felt underprepared for the 2024 World Club Challenge following the Pacific Championships.

Co-captain Isaah Yeo expressed his disappointment at missing the opportunity to add the World Club Challenge to their impressive resume, but acknowledged the club’s predicament. “It’s just so hard with Vegas… If we weren’t doing Vegas, I reckon we’d be a chance, but that just makes it a bit harder.”

The Panthers’ decision has sparked discussions with the NRL about potential alternative dates, but a solution seems unlikely unless Hull KR pulls off an upset win in the Super League decider. For now, the World Club Challenge will have to wait, as the Panthers prioritize their players’ well-being and focus on securing a fifth consecutive NRL title.
