In a devastating blow to the Carolina Panthers, starting center Austin Corbett will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a torn biceps injury sustained during Sunday’s 36-10 defeat to the Chicago Bears. This marks the third consecutive season Corbett has been sidelined by injury, following a knee issue in 2023 and an ACL tear in the 2022 finale.
The Panthers will also be without starting right tackle Taylor Moton, whose impressive 104-game starting streak will come to an end against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. Veteran Yosh Nijman, who signed a two-year, $8 million deal in the offseason, will fill the void.
Wide receiver Xavier Legette and outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney both suffered shoulder injuries in the loss to the Bears, but remain hopeful of playing against the NFC South-leading Falcons. Meanwhile, Brady Christensen, who suffered a similar injury to Corbett in the 2023 opener, will step in as his replacement.
Christensen, who has started games at both tackle and guard, has been preparing to back up Corbett this season. While he faces a daunting task in replacing Corbett, who boasts the lowest pressure rate allowed among centers this year (0.6%), Christensen exudes confidence. “I’ve been working on it for a while,” he said. “I feel confident in the playbook, protections, and everything. I’ll study hard this week and I’m excited to have a lot of fun.”
