Renowned Point Guard Faces Uncertain Recovery After Thumb Surgery
In a setback for the Washington Wizards, star point guard Malcolm Brogdon underwent a surgical procedure to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb on Tuesday. The injury occurred during a practice session in Montreal on Saturday, casting a shadow over the team’s preparations.
The Wizards had high hopes for Brogdon, whom they acquired in a blockbuster trade with the Portland Trail Blazers. In exchange for Deni Avdija, Washington received the 14th overall pick in the 2024 draft, a 2029 first-round pick, and two future second-round picks.
Brogdon, 31, was a key contributor for the Trail Blazers last season, averaging 15.7 points, 5.5 assists, and 3.8 rebounds per game. His absence will undoubtedly be felt, but the Wizards are remaining tight-lipped about his recovery timeline, promising to provide an update at a later date.
