**Vegas Golden Knights to Eat Robin Lehner’s Contract, No Cap Hit Attached**

A professional hockey team has reached a settlement with one of its goalies, agreeing to pay out the remainder of his lucrative contract while simultaneously removing him from their salary cap obligations. The agreement, finalized after extensive negotiations between the team, league, and players’ union, brings an end to a complex and sensitive situation.

The 33-year-old goalie, who has been sidelined since April 2022, was owed $4.4 million for the current season as part of a five-year deal worth $25 million. However, he failed to report to training camp for a mandatory physical, citing personal reasons that were known to all parties involved.

This unusual case has been described by league insiders as “unprecedented and highly unique.” The goalie, who has been open about his struggles with mental health, including bipolar disorder, ADHD, and PTSD, has chosen not to comment on the situation at this time.

Notably, the goalie has been a vocal advocate for greater understanding and support for mental health issues in the sports world. In 2019, he was awarded the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, recognizing his perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey.

With the regular season set to begin, the team would have been forced to either terminate the goalie’s contract or utilize long-term injured reserve (LTIR) again had a resolution not been reached. Instead, the settlement allows both parties to move forward, with the team avoiding any potential cap penalties.
