In the midst of a thrilling tournament, golfer Beau Hossler emerged as the leader heading into the weekend at the prestigious Country Club of Jackson. His impressive 8-under 64 on Friday propelled him to the top of the leaderboard, with a total score of 15-under 129.
Hossler’s remarkable round was nearly flawless, with the exception of a single bogey on the first hole. He more than made up for it with a stunning 30-foot eagle putt on the par-5 fifth hole. The golfer attributed his success to a focused approach, breaking down the course into manageable sections and capitalizing on scoring opportunities.
Daniel Berger, who recently returned to the sport after an 18-month hiatus due to a back injury, trailed Hossler by just one shot. Berger’s 65 on Friday featured seven birdies and no bogeys, a testament to his remarkable resilience and determination.
The group of contenders two shots behind Hossler included Keith Mitchell, Jacob Bridgeman, and David Skinns of England. Skinns, who set a course record with a 60 on Thursday, struggled to maintain his momentum on Friday, but still managed to break par with a 71.
As the tournament heads into the weekend, the stakes are high, with the cut set at 6-under 138. For many players, the goal is to secure a spot in the top 125 by November to ensure a full card for 2025. Bridgeman, currently ranked 123, took a significant step towards achieving this goal.
Former U.S. Open champion Gary Woodland, still recovering from brain surgery over a year ago, demonstrated remarkable grit and determination, posting a bogey-free 68 to remain in contention. Woodland’s performance was all the more impressive given his struggles with his game on Friday.
