In the midst of a tumultuous season, the Dallas Cowboys are bracing for a challenging matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers without three key players. Edge rusher Micah Parsons, defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, and wide receiver Brandin Cooks will all be sidelined due to injuries.
Despite the setbacks, quarterback Dak Prescott remains optimistic, refusing to put undue pressure on himself to compensate for the losses. “I don’t think it’s about trying to do more or be someone I’m not,” Prescott emphasized. “It’s about being my best, preparing to the highest standard, and trusting in my abilities.”
Lawrence’s right midfoot sprain has landed him on injured reserve, potentially keeping him out for eight weeks. Parsons is nursing a high ankle sprain, while Cooks is recovering from a knee infection. The trio’s absence will be deeply felt, particularly with the Cowboys’ bye week still two weeks away.
Prescott, however, is confident in the team’s depth and resilience. “I’ve been able to break tackles, make plays with my feet, and deliver throws when it matters,” he said. “It’s not about being Superman; it’s about playing within myself and trusting my teammates to do the same.”
In 2022, the Cowboys demonstrated their ability to adapt, going 4-1 without Prescott after he suffered a broken thumb in the season opener. This time around, rookie Marshawn Kneeland, Chauncey Golston, and Carl Lawson will step in to fill the void left by Parsons and Lawrence, while Jalen Tolbert will assume Cooks’ role opposite CeeDee Lamb.
“When your number is called, you’ve got to be ready,” Prescott urged his teammates. “Show that you belong, that you’re prepared, and make the most of your opportunity. We’ve got young guys who can do that, and I believe we can establish our identity as a team – as fighters, as relentless competitors who will give it our all every time we take the field.”
The Cowboys are eager to bounce back from their 2-2 start, and Prescott is determined to lead the charge. “It’s about finding a way to win, starting this Sunday, and taking it one game at a time,” he said. “We can’t settle for mediocrity. We’ve got to come out and make a statement.”
