This week, four experienced umpire crew chiefs will take the field to lead their teams in the wild card series. Dan Iassogna, Alfonso Márquez, Bill Miller, and Alan Porter will be stationed at third base for the opening games, with Iassogna and Porter reprising their roles from last year.
Márquez’s crew will oversee the Detroit Tigers’ matchup against the Houston Astros, with Tony Randazzo calling balls and strikes behind the plate, Jordan Baker at first base, Will Little at second, Jeremie Rehak in left field, and Junior Valentine in right.
Meanwhile, Miller’s crew will preside over the Kansas City Royals’ series against the Baltimore Orioles, featuring Ryan Additon behind the plate, Ben May at first, Nic Lentz at second, David Rackley in left, and Malachi Moore in right.
Porter’s crew will officiate the New York Mets’ series against the Milwaukee Brewers, with Alex Tosi behind the plate, Chris Segal at first, Vic Carapazza at second, Mike Estabrook in left, and Brennan Miller in right.
Rounding out the assignments, Iassogna’s crew will work the Atlanta Braves’ series against the San Diego Padres, featuring Nestor Ceja behind the plate, Phil Cuzzi at first, Jansen Visconti at second, Mark Wegner in left, and Erich Bacchus in right.
A team of replay umpires, including Bruce Dreckman, Manny Gonzalez, D.J. Reyburn, and Stu Scheurwater, will be stationed at the video center in the commissioner’s office to review plays.
Notably, Bacchus, Miller, Moore, and Valentine will make their postseason on-field debuts, while Miller and Valentine previously worked as postseason replay umpires last year.
