Top Asian Football Stars Vie for Prestigious Accolades
After a year-long hiatus, the Asian Football Confederation is set to announce its top players, coaches, and youth talents at the annual awards ceremony in Seoul, South Korea on October 29. The prestigious event will recognize outstanding achievements in the sport, with several categories up for grabs.
In the running for the Asian International Player of the Year (Men) are three exceptional talents: Mehdi Taremi, who recently joined Serie A giants Inter Milan; Musa Al-Taamari, who impressed with Montpellier; and Son Heung-Min, the Tottenham Hotspur captain and record winner of the award with six trophies to his name.
The Asian Player of the Year award will be contested by Akram Afif, who led Qatar to a second consecutive Asian Cup crown; Yazan Al-Naimat, a hero of Jordan’s Asian Cup campaign; and Seol Young-Woo, the South Korean defender who recently earned a move to Europe with Red Star Belgrade.
The women’s categories feature a talented pool of players, with Japan’s Kiko Seike, Australia’s Cortnee Vine, and South Korea’s Kim Hye-Ri vying for the Women’s Player of the Year award. Meanwhile, the International Player of the Year (Women) will be awarded to either Ellie Carpenter, who starred for Lyon in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, or Manchester City’s Yui Hasegawa.
Coaches and youth players will also be recognized for their achievements, with nominees including Graham Arnold, Go Oiwa, and Hwang Sun-Hong for Coach of the Year (Men), and Leah Blayney, Tomomi Miyamoto, and Park Youn-Jeong for Coach of the Year (Women). The Youth Player of the Year awards will feature talented youngsters from Japan, South Korea, Australia, and Uzbekistan.
The AFC Annual Awards promise to be an exciting celebration of Asian football’s finest talents, with the winners set to be announced on October 29 in Seoul.
