The newly appointed manager of the national team has announced his inaugural 25-player roster, featuring a mix of seasoned veterans and rising stars. Headlining the group are AC Milan’s prolific forward, Juventus’ dynamic midfielder, and Monaco’s promising striker. The team will face off against Panama at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas, on October 12, followed by a highly anticipated match against their arch-rivals, Mexico, at the Estadio Akron in Guadalajara three days later.
The roster boasts 19 players who participated in the recent Copa América tournament, where the team struggled to make an impact, failing to advance beyond the group stage and suffering a 2-1 defeat to Panama. Historically, the national team has enjoyed a strong record against Panama, with 17 wins, 3 losses, and 6 draws. Against Mexico, they are riding a seven-game unbeaten streak, dating back to the 2021 Concacaf Nations League final. However, their last away win in this storied rivalry came in 2012, a 1-0 victory at the iconic Estadio Azteca.
Notable absences from the roster include injured players such as Bournemouth midfielder, PSV Eindhoven defender, Borussia Dortmund midfielder, and Crystal Palace defender. On the other hand, Colorado Rapids goalkeeper and Venezia midfielder have earned recalls to the team. The goalkeeper’s last appearance for the national team dates back to March 2022, while the midfielder last played in the 2023 Gold Cup and was part of the Olympic team that reached the quarterfinals in Paris.
The team’s most experienced player, with 73 caps, enters the camp in scintillating form, having scored five goals and provided two assists to start the season. Other players, such as Monaco’s striker, PSV Eindhoven forward, and Norwich City’s forward, have also been in impressive form lately. The striker has scored in his past two league matches, the forward netted twice in his first start of the season, and the forward recorded two assists against Derby County.
