A major shakeup is coming to the world of baseball broadcasting. A leading sports media company, currently facing financial difficulties, has announced plans to drastically scale back its coverage of Major League Baseball games. Starting in 2025, the company will no longer broadcast games for 11 of the 12 teams it currently partners with.
The lone exception will be the Atlanta Braves, whose games will continue to be televised by the company next season. The remaining 11 teams, including the Cincinnati Reds, Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Angels, Miami Marlins, St. Louis Cardinals, and Tampa Bay Rays, were previously contracted to work with the company through 2025. They will now need to either renegotiate their deals or seek out alternative broadcasting arrangements.
The sudden announcement caught Major League Baseball officials off guard, with representatives expressing frustration at being blindsided by the news. “We’re being asked to respond without having any information or opportunity to review the situation,” said one MLB attorney during a court hearing. The four teams whose contracts with the company expired at the end of the 2024 season – the Cleveland Guardians, Milwaukee Brewers, Minnesota Twins, and Texas Rangers – will also need to explore new broadcasting options.
