Renowned footballer Luis Suárez has spoken out about the challenging working conditions under the guidance of national team coach Marcelo Bielsa. In a recent interview, Suárez revealed that the coach’s strict rules have created a tense atmosphere within the team.
According to Suárez, the restrictions imposed by Bielsa have affected the morale of the players and staff. He cited an example where employees at the team’s training complex were not allowed to greet or eat with the players, and even had to be careful when entering the facility.
Suárez also shared his concerns about the lack of communication between the coaching staff and players during the recent Copa América tournament. He recalled a meeting where players asked the coach to simply acknowledge them with a greeting, but Bielsa refused.
Despite the team’s decent performance in the tournament, Suárez painted a bleak picture of the situation behind the scenes. He expressed his disappointment with Bielsa’s leadership style, which he believes has divided the team.
Before retiring from international football, Suárez attempted to address the issues with Bielsa, but their conversation was unproductive. As the team looks ahead to the 2026 World Cup, Suárez urged fans to be understanding and not blame the players if things don’t go as planned.
Uruguay will resume their World Cup qualifying campaign on October 11 against Peru.
