In a recent development, the governing body of motorsports has announced that it will not be moving forward with a proposed rookie showcase event at the season-ending grand prix in Abu Dhabi. The concept, which had gained significant traction, aimed to provide a platform for up-and-coming drivers to compete against each other in a unique format.
The decision was made during a meeting of top stakeholders at a team’s headquarters in Italy, where logistical and timing constraints were cited as the primary reasons for shelving the idea. Despite the setback, discussions are set to continue with the goal of reviving the concept for the 2025 season.
The proposed format would have seen a condensed qualifying session followed by a 100km race, providing an opportunity for around 10 rookie drivers to take the wheel without their teams worrying about potential damage to their cars. While the event will not take place this year, fans can look forward to the final grand prix of the season, set to take place on December 8 at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina circuit.
