The Fijian international prop, Daniel Saifiti, has signed a three-year deal with the Dolphins, bolstering their forward pack following the retirement of their long-time skipper. Saifiti, who has played 183 NRL games and seven State of Origin matches for NSW, was released from his Knights contract and will join the Dolphins until the end of 2027.
The 28-year-old’s experience and leadership will be invaluable to the Dolphins, who have been preparing for the departure of their founding skipper. Saifiti’s connection with incoming head coach Kristian Woolf, who previously worked with him at the Knights, played a significant role in his decision to join the club.
Saifiti’s signing is part of the Dolphins’ strategy to strengthen their pack, which will also see the arrival of North Queensland’s powerhouse second-rower Kulikefu Finefuiaki next season. Additionally, Queensland forward Tom Gilbert is expected to return from a knee injury that ruled him out for the entire 2024 season.
CEO Terry Reader expressed his excitement about Saifiti’s arrival, stating that he will be a “very good addition” to the pack. Saifiti, who hails from the Central Coast in NSW, was keen to join a quality club that would provide him with suitable financial compensation and a chance to build on his success.
With Saifiti on board, the Dolphins are well-equipped to tackle the challenges of the upcoming season, and his experience will be crucial in helping the team navigate the competitive NRL landscape.
