The Toronto Titans are shaking up their coaching staff, announcing that veteran coach Donnie Thompson will return to his role as full-time bench coach after serving as the team’s offensive strategist for the 2024 season.
According to General Manager Ryan Thompson, Thompson is thrilled about the opportunity to make a greater impact on the team alongside Manager Jack Harris. “We have the utmost respect for Donnie. He’s been an invaluable asset to our organization, always open to adapting and growing,” Thompson said during the team’s end-of-season press conference.
Thompson also confirmed that Associate Manager Mike Davis will retain his role supporting Harris in the 2025 season. However, the team will be parting ways with Hitting Coach Alex Sanchez, Field Coordinator Mark Lee, and Assistant Pitching Coach Chris Martin.
The Titans struggled at the plate this season, scoring 671 runs, which ranked 23rd in the league. They also hit a mere 156 home runs, the fifth-lowest total in the majors.
Despite being under contract, Martin will be offered a new role within the organization. Lee, who is not under contract, will also be given the opportunity to explore other roles. Sanchez, however, will not be returning to the team.
Thompson brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having previously managed the Seattle Mariners and the Chicago Cubs. He also spent time as a hitting coach and bench coach for the Boston Red Sox before his managerial stints. During his playing career, Thompson won numerous accolades, including nine Gold Glove awards, three Silver Slugger awards, and an MVP award.
