In a move that will shake up the Dallas Cowboys’ receiving corps, star wideout Brandin Cooks has been sidelined with a knee issue, forcing the team to place him on injured reserve. The news, announced on Saturday, means Cooks will miss at least the next four games, including this weekend’s matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Cooks’ knee troubles began after a recent procedure in New York, which led to an infection. Cowboys medical staff stepped in to clean out the infection and address a lingering meniscus problem that had been plaguing Cooks since training camp.
As a result, Cooks will be out of commission until November 10, when the Cowboys take on the Philadelphia Eagles. In his absence, the team will rely on a quartet of receivers: Jalen Tolbert, Jalen Brooks, KaVontae Turpin, and Ryan Flournoy, all of whom will be playing behind CeeDee Lamb. Cooks, who has nine receptions for 91 yards and a touchdown this season, will be sorely missed.
The Cowboys were forced to make the move due to a rash of injuries on the defensive line, including ankle issues for Micah Parsons and a Lisfranc injury to DeMarcus Lawrence’s right foot, which has landed him on injured reserve. To bolster their defensive ranks, the team has signed linebacker Nick Vigil to the 53-man roster and promoted defensive end Carl Lawson and cornerback Amani Oruwariye from the practice squad.
