PHOENIX — In the wake of a disappointing season, the Arizona Diamondbacks are making significant changes to their coaching staff.
The team announced Thursday that three members of their coaching staff will not be returning next year. The departures include the pitching coach, assistant pitching coach, and bullpen coach.
Despite boasting the highest-scoring offense in baseball, averaging 5.47 runs per game, the Diamondbacks struggled on the mound. Injuries plagued the pitching staff, with key players like Eduardo Rodriguez, Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, and Jordan Montgomery spending time on the injured list.
The team’s owner acknowledged that one of the offseason’s high-profile signings, Jordan Montgomery, did not live up to expectations. Montgomery was demoted to the bullpen after underperforming.
The Diamondbacks’ pitching woes were evident in their 4.62 ERA, one of the worst in the league. Despite finishing with a respectable 89-73 record, the team missed the playoffs due to tiebreakers.
As the team looks to regroup and rebound, these coaching changes mark the first step in their quest to return to postseason contention.
