Tampa Bay Faces Injury Woes Ahead of Divisional Matchup
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be without several key players when they take on the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday night. Quarterback Baker Mayfield will be down two receivers, as Trey Palmer recovers from a concussion sustained in last week’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles, and Jalen McMillan remains sidelined with a hamstring injury.
The team will also be without All-Pro safety Antoine Winfield Jr., who is still recovering from a foot/ankle injury. Starting right tackle Luke Goedeke and defensive tackle Calijah Kancey will also miss the game due to concussions and calf injuries, respectively.
Inside linebacker SirVocea Dennis, who had been seeing increased playing time in passing situations, was placed on injured reserve with a shoulder injury on Tuesday. To bolster their roster, the Buccaneers signed veteran wide receiver Sterling Shepard and inside linebacker Antonio Grier from the practice squad.
Coach Todd Bowles expressed confidence in his team’s ability to adapt to the injuries, saying, “We’ll go with what we have. We’ve been going with what we have. We have guys that stepped up. They have to step up again.” Bowles also hinted that Kancey might be ready to return for next week’s game against the New Orleans Saints, saying, “He has a chance.”
