In a move to revamp its uniform policy, Major League Baseball has announced a series of changes that will take effect over the next two seasons. Starting in 2025, players will once again don their primary home and road uniforms during the All-Star Game, a tradition that was abandoned in 2021.
This decision comes after an outpouring of feedback from players, who were unhappy with the specially designed uniforms worn during the exhibition game. While the caps worn during the All-Star Game will still be unique to the event, the rest of the uniform will return to its classic look.
In addition to the All-Star Game uniforms, MLB is also making changes to its regular season attire. In response to criticism from players, the league is increasing pant customization options and reverting back to materials used in previous seasons. The lettering for player names on the back of jerseys will also be enlarged for better readability.
While the changes won’t be fully implemented until 2026, fans can expect to see some of the new uniforms as early as spring training in 2025. Road gray uniforms will be the first to make the switch, with all teams transitioning to the new materials by the start of the 2026 season.
