In the midst of a tumultuous season, one Carolina player is generating significant buzz around the league. Wide receiver phenom, Alex Harris, has been at the center of trade rumors, with several top contenders reportedly vying for his services. However, head coach, Ryan Thompson, is adamant that Harris is staying put.
“My primary focus is on putting the best possible team on the field,” Thompson emphasized. “We’re invested in the development of our current roster, and I don’t foresee any changes.”
Harris, 28, is in the final year of his lucrative contract, worth $36.7 million over two years. This has led to speculation that the Panthers might opt to trade him before the November deadline, rather than risk losing him to free agency. However, a league insider revealed that Harris is keen on signing an extension with the Panthers.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Harris remains committed to his current team. “I can’t control the rumors, but I can control my performance on the field,” he stated. “I’m focused on helping the Panthers succeed, and whatever happens, happens.”
Harris has been a bright spot in an otherwise lackluster season, leading the team with 20 receptions on 39 targets. His chemistry with quarterback, Andy Dalton, has been particularly impressive, with 15 catches on 27 targets over the past two games.
Thompson praised Harris, saying, “We’re building our offense around him, finding ways to get him the ball and create opportunities for him to excel.” Harris sat out Wednesday’s practice due to ankle soreness, but Thompson expects him to be ready for Sunday’s matchup against the Chicago Bears.
